With my addiction to harvest parts from older printers, recently got a laser diode with drive circuit and heat sink. Can anyone advice to some projects to utilize this laser ??

Is it visible light?

* Glue a small mirror to a speaker cone. Aim the laser at the mirror while playing music. The reflected light beam draws figures.

* Make a laser show with servo motors moving the mirror rapidly so it writes and draws anything you program it to.

If the driver has a on/off input concert audio into pwm with a 741 or something &apply it to the on/off, then you can send audio using the laser, you'd be surprised how far it goes.
