I recently bought an LEM LA55-P hall-effect current sensor. I designed it to output a voltage of 1.4V, and to my surprise the output was in terms of current. my questions are:
1)Do i have to use a current to voltage converter since i want to feed that output to a dsPIC30F for ADC?
2)Do i work with that output (in terms of current) and how will it affect the dsPIC30F?

Typically a resistor is used as a current to voltage converter. This lets you determine the gain of the sensor with just a resistor value. A transimpedance amp could also work, but is generally not necessary.

The LA55-P has the current conversion ratio of 1:1000 meaning your sensor which is capable of sensing 50 amps of current will output 50mA of current through its M terminal (which is connected to a resistor )when it senses there is a 50 A of current flow .

After powering your la55-p with dual supplies at its + and - terminals connect a 100 ohm resistor in series from the terminal marked "M" to ground.
Doing so you will get an output of 100 mV for every one amp flow of current across the resistor with reference to ground. For example 10 Amp flow of current through the sensed wire will result in a 1 V=(100 mV*10) as the output voltage across the 100 ohm resistor.
