A resource for users, developers, and testers of Knoppix:
No need to create a partition on hard disk and install it separately. Just insert the cd-rom in drive and set option in bios to to boot from cd-rom and you have a system running linux for you. Take out cd-rom reboot the system and you are back in windows. It runs even on a 486 machine.
Excellent option for those who want to explore Linux.
I'm wondering how to execute the program on the hard disk under

I tried this knoppix linux in my machine. It has a great interface, bunch of software bundles, and is indeed a good option for linux newbies like me.
However, I encountered several problem, and see if you guys have any clues:
(1) my cable connection was OK with XP. But it doesn't seem good with knoppix. Is there any setup that I skpped?
(2) when I tried to tar the synopsys 's syn_2002.05-SP1_linux.tar, it says something like " Read-only directory". I think I did the "chmod 777." in the current directory.
(3) Anyone tried to install synopsys linux tools in Knoppix? What should I do with taz file?
