JFET transfer characteristics

Hi,

I'm new to JFET transfer characteristics, and was having difficulty understanding it. could you tell me what the following graph tells about the JFET transfer characteristics, and whether or not my explanation for this graph is correct.

in order to show the characteristic, you should put vds on the x-axis and the y-axis is the drain current, then do the grapf at different value of vgs
