I want to trigger a solenoid to latch open when 240v is applied to a motor. The solenoid is 24v and has a latching mechanism, so I only need to send it 24v for less than a second, I don't want it powered the whole time.
Most relays are indeed momentary—the connection is made as long as the solenoid is powered, and once power is disconnected the connection becomes broken.

Sorry, what I meant was one that is momentary even though the power is still connected.
E.g. I turn on the switch, and the switch stays on, but the relay only closes for a second (momentarily) solenoid only gets a 'pulse' of power once, even though power is still running through the switch.
