is slewing really bad as advertised?

Is slewing really bad as commonly believed? It looks to me that pumping all the tail current at once, when needed, is more power efficient in low voltage design THAN fixing slew by burning more power all the time.
 

Yes it is bad. I once had a breadboard fail performance requirements because the slew rate of one model of amplifier was 10% of the data sheet value. This was solved with another model of amplifier.
