Hi i am trying to learn about amplitude modulators. Can anyone pls explain the difference between ring and balanced modulators. I understand that a ring modulator can also be a balanced modulator too but a balanced modulator cannot be a ring modulator?? So what is the key difference. Becoz balance is only referring to the fact that the carrier is suppressed.
Also pls have a look at this image. A ring modulator gets it name wen diodes ( a non-linear device) is arranged in a ring fashion. How come ring mod has a linear operation when we use a diodes in it???
Finally wen we require a 4 quadrant modulator, on what does this 4 quadrant based on. Meaning like if the modulator is balanced then does it have 4 quadrants. If not balanced then only two or single quadrant??? Is it like that??? Can anyone pls help. I went through so many articles but its really confusing as they have interchanged both terms a lot... Thanks a lot!!!!
