Re: about mandrake 10.0

I know there are 3 free CDs to download. I do not know about 8 CDs, it may be an "advanced" edition which is not free.

Re: about mandrake 10.0

it has officially 4 fool cds.
and how about knoppix(1 cd), slackware(4cds), and slax(1cd)? are they free too?

Re: about mandrake 10.0

i have some doubt about it, we bought a commercial mandrake from an exhibition last year, and it was more than 4 CDs, i think 6 or 8.

about mandrake 10.0

I think the only need 3 CDs to install the CD.
Others maybe tools or source CDs.

Re: about mandrake 10.0

I agree with hjankin.
Knoppix is free and Suse is also free as evaluation version.

Re: about mandrake 10.0

from what i know, all distros of linux are free for download. but if u order a CD from some online store u have to pay for it.

each distro of linux has a number of mirrors (do a google on this for the distro u want) from where u can download the ISO images of the installation CDs. u should have a CD writer and a burning software that will burn the image onto a CD.

now no matter how big the installation is it will be free. the add-ons are also free. u only have to pay a price when u actually buy the CD from somewhere (which is usually not much expensive)

if u have a fast internet connection then u should download the distro but if u have a slow connection its better if u buy the CD as opposed to wait for weeks for the images to be downloaded.

i hope that helps

Mandrake 10.0 download: 3 CDs with free binary packages
and installer

Mandrake 10.0 for buying: depends on the version, e.g.
"MDK 10.0 professional" comes with one DVD and 8 CDs.
Additional CDs contains sources, docs and nonfree
commercial packages.
