How to characterize IR emitter and Detector?

I have QEE113 as emitter and QSE113 as detector.

It was mentioned as ESD sensitive devices.

Is it must to wear wrist band ?

I have all instruments such as CRO, DSO, Signal generator, etc.

But I don't know how to characterize the leds?

IR detector is a photo diode. You can measure the ambient light using IR detector [QSE113]. you can connect the multimeter to the IR detector & in reverse bias condition the resistance will change corresponds to the ambient light...

You can make a simple square wave generator & connect it to the IR emitter in forward bias. You can see the IR wave using your mobile phone camera.

QSE113 is photo-transistor.

How to check whether IR emitter and detector works according to the datasheet ?

for example how calculate

Power radiated
power received
intensity at given point
approximate photons ejected from the ir emitter
approximate photons received to the IR detector
