Some comments:
1) The capacitor C3 in the pin 2 of the MAX232, can go to VCC or GND.
2) Verify with your MAX specific device (I mean the datasheet) the pinout, just to check. I've used the MAX232 from TI.
3) Check the MAX232 datasheet to see wich way the capacitors must be conected if you use polarized.

Download it **broken link removed**. If you use window$ download this KiCad-2009-02-16-final-WinXP_autoinstall.zip or this KiCad-2009-02-16-final-WinXP_full_with_components_doc_autoinstall.zip. (You can download it for Linux too)

There is a lot of libraries here.

Do I need to configure in my computer for interfacing with MAX232?

You must ensure that the com port of your PC, has the same settings that the UART on the PIC. For example 8 bits, none parity, one stop bit (aka 8N1).
I don't remember about the flow control (XON/XOFF or software) but try both.

You can use the max 233, it has the capacitor built in, just make the conections. You can use the free samples of Maxim.
