I am trying to use an outdoor PIR sensor to activate a solenoid valve.

The PIR sensor is an exterior type, that is generally used to activate lights. It operates off 240 Volt AC (I am in the UK).

The solenoid valve also operates off 240 Volt AC.

My question is: do I need to place a diode across the solenoid, to protect the PIR circuit from "back EMF"?

Advice on this matter would be appreciated.

The usual PIR sensors have relay to drive the output voltage, so i dont think a diode is needed.

Can you post the model of the PIR?
