Hello,

I have problems implementing this output stage from the Huijsing "Operational Amplifiers" book (p. 152). For my design, R1=R2=100 kOhm, Ib2=Ib1=20 µA. Technology XFAB 0.35 µm.

1. Why does it have 2 inputs? As far as I read, is not supposed to be a differential buffer. It's clear the fact that the circuit comes from splitting another circuit and turning it upside down but, how am I supposed to define Vin1 and Vin2?

2. Can I drive it only from one side of R1? The book suggests this "could" be done. But when I look at the Vout, it is obviously not expected to have the same value.

3. What I get for output seems to be a high gain amplifier that saturates at VSS and VDD, not a voltage follower.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Oscar

just a suggestion

i think you need to drive the device with a differential output amp
or a phase split-er.
