Input DC voltage required for the Inverter - reg

Hi,

I want to design an inverter for household applications. (230V @50HZ frequency is requirement). the DC supply voltage is 48 Volts. it requires a DC-DC converter to step up the voltage.

I can go with boost converter to boost the voltage. But i was not able to find, to which voltage it should be boosted to convert it into the equivalent 230V AC magnitude?

230 VDC has exactly the same heating effect as 230V AC. If you want a crude sort of AC then +- 230V square wave is the same. A -230 Vdc has the same heating effect as a +230 VDC. If you want to turn your DC into a 230V AC then you need a +-325 DC source.

Is 230AC magnitude or rms? anyway, depending on inverter topology, the DC voltage requirement is different. If you are employing half bridge single phase inverter, the dc voltage can be calculated as

Vdc = 2 |Vac|/ma; where ma is modulation index and could be set around 0.8 for SPWM technique.
