pcm codec pdm

Hi,

does anyone is aware about the possibility to implement an audio low-cost solution by means of a simple pulse-density modulation (PDM) followed by a LC pass band filter (it could even be implemented by the loudspeaker itself)?
I am interested in avoiding buying a PCM codec (input = PCM, output = analog) for the purpose of playing ring tones and simple low-quality music with a ARM BB processor.

Thank you,

N.
