hello guys i am working in a wheelchair design , these products are classsified as industrial as far as i know since they involve human life (safety)

i already have the electronic circuits from earlier projects and they work fine ( driver , control , micro ) ...

but how can these circuit move from being Amature into industrial (robust) ?

what are the things that makes a circuit " industrial " ....

what are the things that i should take care of , add failsafes ? ..redundant sensors .. more protection (how ?) ?

any ideas are appreaciated

i forget to mention does evaluation boards from ST , TI ... that are usually opensource schematic a good start ?
Although they mension in all their documents some thing like " use at your own risk and this product is for demonstartion purpose only "

Lots of testings, lots of lab research and testing, certification of completed device/unit, pay attention on each part, sensor, joining,....

Practical expirience...

Best regards,
Peter

"add failsafes ? ..redundant sensors .. more protection"

In addition to everything that you mentioned, Certification by a safety / regulatory agency.
Which agency depends where in the world you intend to sell these products.

To pass a regulatory agency costs lots of money...so your design should be independently tested before you actually submit that for certification.

Failsafe is very important if there's anything that can fail and be a danger to anyone. I believe the Segway, for example, has three redundant processors operating simultaneously to control the device It has a voting circuit where at least two of the three signals from the processors must agree before the device will move.

thanks guys , but still i would like someone to answer the answer that i added in the end :

Evaluation boards are for developments and for sure they will give you complete circuit, you need to know what and how you developing. Without complete circuit this is pointless.

"Use at your own risk and this product is for demonstartion purpose only." - First part of that phrase you will see on almost any product, I think they start to stick that even on food. They want to tell you that evauluation board is only for demonstration or developing and not for final products. Like Arduino, Arduino board is for development, its like kids toy when you use Arduino board in final device product. Serious final product require new designed and compact PCB, based on development circuit and software.

thanks , that cleared some staff .

just can you tell me my arduino boards are always considered a hobby product ,what if you attach a shield of your own design on it . they really come in handy to reduce time ,PCB space by stacking, and soldering skills (for example arduino mega 2560)

i only contains a micro and some basic components and fabricated using standard PCB procedure , right ? what i will gain if i used the same atmel processor on my own pcb directly without relaying on arduino board . ??!! to rephrase : what could i do i my micro PCB to make it better than arduino ??!!

i really hope u know, since i have never found any satisfying answers for this question on the web .

cheers

Arduino is for developing, and dimension of boards are "small" but its not professionally to use development board in final product. For example can you imagine some medical equipment where someone use Arduino board or some similar dev board, or some power supply with cheap Chinese digital multimeter used as voltmeter to show voltage instead appropriate LCD display, or smart mobile phone with bluetooth, WiFi and other needed modules connected over pinhead connectors, imagine that you buy new car BMW X6 and somewhere inside you see pluged Arduino module which control breaks and wheels....

You can use Arduino circuit for your PCB, and on that PCB you can add others connectors and peripherals what you need to use. The same situation is with development board systems/board, after finishing developing process, the same circuit from developing board is used in new PCB what we design as small and compact, including that part from developing board what we used for our project. Complete development system/board circuit is published often in manual provided by manufacturer.

You can make smaller board with connectors and parts what you need, also with parts arrangement to your needs. Arduino mega 2560 is pretty large. Additional on your board you ensures better cooling/heating of parts, ensures protection for acids, water, electrical shorts, vibrations,..... On end testing, certification, approvals...

Peter
