Inclionometer question..

I have a very newbie question, pls pardon me ...

I have an inclionometer that accepts voltage input of +12V for A and -12V for B.

My question is, must the voltage of B be the exact the reverse of A?

Can B be -12.10V and A be +12.58V? Will it affect the inclionometer reading?

Thanks.
