Hello,

I'm new to using EAGLE. Could someone please tell me how I can import components which aren't already in the library?

I am trying to use a Maxim MAX1044 IC in DIP package.

Thank you.

I am not sure what you mean by "importing" them. If you have a library with the part and want to add it to a schematic or PCB then you simply "add" the part. If you mean transferring a part from one library to another then open the library you want to transfer the part to. Then browse in the Eagle control panel to the library and part you want to transfer and right click. One of the options should then be "copy to library". This is useful if you want to add parts from a standard library to your own so you can modify it.

You can also export and import parts as a script but that shouldn't be necessary - right clicking is easier.

Keith.

Keith,

Perhaps I wasn't very clear in the original post. I want to add a component which does not exist in any of the libraries. There do not appear to be any EAGLE schematics on the Maxim Integrated website either?

That is simply a case of learning how to create new components for Eagle. I believe there are tutorials on the internet and also on Cadsoft's site. Except for some of the more exotic packages you should be able to use the ones in the existing libraries. Look in 'ref-packages'. Then you only need to draw the schematic view and connect it to the package.

Hi Pha5e,

I'm a long time user of EAGLE. As far as I know, there are no component import functions available that will import components or component libraries from other PCB/Schematic Capture CAD vendors.

However, here are a couple of nifty tutorials which I found useful at one time or another, both were published by hciLab (Human Computer Interaction Group) on their website. I saved both webpages as a pdf file, one never knows when a useful website will go dark, and the way the US Gvrnmnt is beginning to spy/censor the 'Net, who knows how things will be in the future?!

And another tutorial for making components from a .edu:
