If there is no fixed +ve and -ve in AC then what is phase?

We know that there is no fixed +ve and -ve in AC.For half cycle one wire is +ve and for next half cycle other wire is +ve.
Then what is phase and ground in grid supply?
Why we get shocked from one wire only(i.e phase).
Thanks in advance...

Hi,

When we get heavy shock you know? If you touch both the +ive and -ive (-ive=body touch to ground) at that time get short circuited our body and most of the current pass through our body. If current increases it will dry our body ie: blood will dry.

If we are touching only +ive it will not affect fully something get affected.

You are right but phase tester blinks only on phase wire not on neutral wire which means there is one phase and one ground.
Then how that theory applies to it that in AC there is no fixed +ve and _ve.

Hi,
For operating any instrument we have to close the circuit. You told the tester is working only when we are touching. ie : the circuit is closing indirectly, means that getting ground indirectly through us. one end is connected to +ive and our body acts as a -ive ok ?

Yes you are right but the question is that in scenario of a tester ,the tester blinks only in phase line(i know our body acts as ground) but tester does not blink when i connect it to neutral line.
This shows that only phase line is +ve means there is a fixed +ve.
Then why we say there is no fixed +ve and/or -ve in AC.

This happens, because neutral is considered to be the place, where there's plenty of room for the electrons to recombine with the holes, a carrier recombination takes place.That's the core logic. I don't want to get into the complication of potential changing, rate of change. Even though, there have been occasions where the single phase equipments had been run on a single wire, that is phase and didn't even used the neutral. I tell you,a tester can give you blink on phase and on neutral also, but for this, few things are taken into consideration.

How can anyone relate the above two statements together?
