The transformer is that used in an IDE psu 220 ac input, 12v 2A 5V 2A output.

It is an EI ferrite transformer with
a gap between the center leg of the E shaped part and the I part ,the center leg is cylindrical.

Its dimensions and number of turns for each winding are known (i have dismantled it).

I found IDE psu schematic (or part of it ) ide_psu_1999.png

The questions are:

1-how to name its shape and size (like those EE xx ,ETD xx,....)?

2-(This may sound silly) can this transformer be used in a 12 v to
300v converter.(rewinding is OK)?
3-I am new to ferrite transformers but as far as i know gapped
transformers allow for a DC component in the primary winding
current without core saturation (as in single ended audio amp )
which is the plate or collector DC current.
In audio transformer a block of E laminations and another block of
I laminations are fully separate (no closed magnetic path), what
is the idea here in that ferrite transformer to have a closed path but a gap in the middle leg only? xfrmr.GIF

Sorry ,here is ide_psu_1999.GIFthe schematic

I guess no one ever opened such a supply or it is a custom transformer !!!!
