Identifying an electric fan motor

I need help in identifying this electric fan motor and its parts for a project documentation. Please see the pictures.

I would like to ask:
- What specific kind of AC motor is this?
- I am to separate each part of the motor, identify each part and its function. Can anyone cite documentations or helpful diagrams about this?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

to help you, please specify at least the following:

1. the manufacturer, of the electric fan.
2. voltage rating
3. no of wires, colors present.
4. how many settings. e.g. hi- med -lo?

you need to specify this in orther for me and others to help you.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

This is kinda a problem, because I don't have the motor right now. I have a similar electric fan over here (both stand fans), but it may differ by manufacturer. Does the basic AC motor type differ if it was made by different manufacturers? I mean, we have typical voltage rating and speed settings here after all (220V, hi-med-lo), and they look the same too.

These are the other motor specs:
1. the manufacturer, of the electric fan. = It says KDK, Matsushita Electric Philippines
2. voltage rating = 220V 60Hz
3. no of wires, colors present. = There are 6 wires (red, brown, yellow, black white, blue)
4. how many settings. e.g. hi- med -lo? = 3 settings (3, 2, 1) so it's hi-med-lo.

I hope you guys could help me further on this. Thanks.

I think the best way is opening the motor. To judge by
the pictures is difficult, but I would say is a induction with
three speed. You should open it and photograph the rotor
and the stator. That would help.

Yes, we will open the motor indeed, that's the purpose of the project.

Unfortunately as I said, I don't have the motor here, it's with the other members of the group. It would take time to do the photographs because it's still early in the morning over here. I certainly hope that you have the patience, but please do elaborate further on what you said (induction w/ 3 speed).
 

identifying an electric motor

To judge by the axis, which is thin and long, the
torque that this motor has to handle is small.
Probable like someone said, a fan. Due to this,
usually the motor are induction type. The rotor
is not wired but has a masive short circuit made of
aluminum and slightly inclined, so there would a
difference of phase that creates the torque. The
induction motor can not change the speed without
modification. In other words, if you try to "control"
the speed by controlling the feeding voltage the
motor will loose the torque very rapidly. The
change of speed ususlly comes in form of wiring
sections of the stator in parallel or series. I am sure
there is plenty of information on internet to choose
from. I did a goggle for "induction motor" and found

In photo number two the rotor is of type
"Squirrel Cage Induction Motor". In photo
number 4, the internal coil is the starting
coil. The motor needs to disconnect this
starting coil after certain speed is reached.
There must be a capacitor between the
regular coil and the starting coil in order
to start too. So, out six cables, two are
for the starting coil and the four of them are
for the regular coil. This may be an indication
that the motor is a two speed motor,
Squirrel Cage Induction Motor.

I see.

So basically, this motor essentially is a Single Phase Induction Motor, but using a rotor of Squirrel Cage type, so it's a Squirrel Cage Induction Motor. Am I right?

I think I have enough information to get me by. Thank you very much to the two of you!
