From a 12VDC/4A power supply I need a circuit diagram to get a +ve and -ve 5VDC. i.e. to get a dual power supply of 5vdc for each polarity.
can someone give me a schematic?
thanks

What is the output current? If less than 0.5A ,you can easily use two MC34063 for buck/inverting supplies. In the datasheet there is a comprehensive explanation.

You can use 12VDC as supply for a power opamp. I can not think one to handle 4A. See some opamp list of them to find such one. For 3A I am attaching it.

Use power opamp to handle 4A and make a voltage divider(using resistors for example), use again same opamp to invert the 5volts to -5 volts.

It seems that with the L165, when giving a 12Vdc input supply voltage, the ooutput wil be +6vdc and -6vdc.
Now what can i do to get a fixed +5vdc and -5vdc?
Can I use the LM7805 and the LM7905? The input voltage is too low?

U have only one posible 12V/4A so u can't use 7805 and 7905 to make dual power supply +/- 5V.

Yes. The inputs (+6V or -6V) is out of the minimum requirement to drive the LM7805 and LM7905 properly. You can consider Low Dropout (LDO) regulator. You can find many in National Semiconductor website. If you're lucky, National Semiconductor will send you free sample (less than 15 business day). Of course, you need to apply first. :D
