How to view NTFS partitions in Mandrake 10?

NTFS in mandrake 10??

hi,

am not that good in linux... could anyone explain me how to view NTFS partitions in linux.. i was told that in linux some modifications had to be made for the NTFS drives to be visible.. is this the case for mandrake 10 also? i have them to be installed... if not possible i ll revert them back to FAT32 itself...

You will have to create a mount point and add an entry to /etc/fstab for the NTFS partitions you want to access.

For more information you should read the manpage for the "mount" command. This manpage explains the mount options available for the NTFS and other filesystems.

A sample entry in /etc/fstab would look something like this:

/dev/hdc1 /mnt/winnt ntfs noauto,uid=700,gid=700,umask=007 0 0

You will have to edit this entry for your own use

My NTFS drives are visible in mandrake 9.2 without doing anything(NTFS drives are automounted). I think same will be the case with Mandrake 10 .

i have my mandrake 10 detecting the NTFS drives automatically as whizkid said.. but did not in my mandrake 9.2.... dint know what s the problem.. i worked out what the other friend of mine told.. after a few mistakes.. i finally got to know abt adding those stuffs.. i am a novice in these sorts in linux..

dont forget you can only read ntfs you can write to it in linux,, myself i use suse linux 9 ,, it's generally a better distro that mandrake, but not completely free, (as in iso's are not available) all that i have to do is use konqueror and browse to /windows/ and i have all my ntfs fat32 drives there,
