i am doing a project on heart rate analyser. it is almost done but i am having problem with getting the pulse from wrist. i tried using an ecg lead.but i heard that piezoelectric accelerometers or piezoelectric sensors are more useful.but i couldnt get the exact name of the sensor in order to purchase it.i would like to get help on details about the sensor i need to use

Use Red LE ultra bright diode as TX and photo transistor as RX.

SENSING PULSE

My designed PCB (double sided) works very well, also I use LM324 and other replacements :

See project address :
Introducing Easy Pulse: A DIY photoplethysmographic sensor for measuring heart rate
https://embedded-lab.com/blog/?p=5508

Replace TCRT1000 with L-53P3C 5mm phototransistor and MCP6004 with LM324D, for TX led I use red 5mm high bright 15000mcd, and all works fine.

COUNTING PULSE RATE

See project address :
Heart rate measurement from fingertip

PCB (double sided) :

Photos of completed device you can see in my photo album.

For powering this device you can use small Li-Po with small StepUp to 5V and small Li-Po charger to charge that battery from USB or other 5V power source, all inside small box.

i cant use the ir sensor as it is used by another team in my batch.i have to do this project with a piezoelectric sensor itself.does this sensor have some other name or code?in my project i have to extract pulse which would be in millivolt range ,which is given to ina128 for amplification and finally converted to a pulse by using comparator and finally count it and display.. everything except the sensor for taking input ,is ready. i need to get this sensor stuff somehow other than IR. plz help

Try Piezo element but I think you will get poor result and lots of false reading. I didnt try piezo for this, but you can try and tell us your expirience.

Try to use ordinary RED LED ultra bright and photo transistor as I. This is very precize.

Search existing EDABoard threads, there is one or few thread with this topic if I remember well.

Here is one project maybe You will find that is useful :

Piezo Film Pulse Sensor
**broken link removed**

can the piezo film sensor used as the input of a pulse oximeter be used for this purpose?????/

I dont think, but you can experiment. This is peripheral oxygen in blood, this cannot give pure medical picture about oxygen in blood, but like some cute small device for free time and new gadget ok.
