terminal window

Ok this is what i want to do but can't seem to find easy way to do it, need
some help.

I programmed 6809 in school and would like to get back into writing some asm, but would prefer to do 6805 now. Problem is i don't know how to set up a terminal window for the emulation to run my program in, and would also like to attempt TX and RX on the com1 port of PC.

can i do this on winxp?

so i think need to find assembler for my code and a way to run the program on my computer using com. port for feed back devices.

can i do this?

you may have to spell it out for me, cause in school it all just work so easy with the 6809 sitting there already hooked up.
