Dear all,

How to select the MOV for the circuit, what are all the parameters to be considered to select the MOV.

Is there is any particular formula for selecting the MOV.

please give your feed back

There is no formula for selecting MOVs,It will protect the circuit from over voltage. MOVs are selected based on the operating AC voltage range, DC voltage range, Peak current, Operating temperature range and Agencies approval.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your reply,

For the SMPS circuit of 230 Vac input & 24 Vdc output which can be the suitable MOV

I assume you want to use an MOV for mains transient protection. As an MOV is directly connected to the mains, it may affect product safety and the choice may depend on where your product will be placed on the market. The sizing (pulse handling and voltage range) depend on expected single and repetitive voltage peaks and fuse rating.

I would recommend you to check application notes from manufacturers (vishay, epcos, littelfuse, etc). You may search for varistor application guide, or varistor application note, you may add "safety". If you have a safety standard for your product I would also read that to avoid supprises.

I second that suggestion. Manufacturer's app notes and design guides are your best friends.
