In Gilbert Cells, your bottom 2 devices provide the amplification so therefore, you should treat them as you would with LNAs to reduce the noise.

May be in the GHz range and bringing down to an IF of 900Mhz for
downconversion

You can try using inductive degeneration to increase the linearity

Never seen this done on a gilbert four quadrant mixer but it sounds
interesting.

Any other ideas ?

That idea about using indctor to increase linearity is presented in an JSSC, IEEE paper in 2001. It seems not bad.

To linearize a BJT with inductor has been around long before 2001,
the major benefit here is that inductors are noiseless unlike ressistors,
but the drawback is that it's hard to make a high Q monolithic inductor,
and it also requires lot of silicon real estate.

Please let me know if there's any other way to reduce the noise
of a Four Quadrant Gilbert mixer.
