vhdl hread

now, I have a hex file. how can I read the data from file and the data I get still in hex or binary? Thank you!

hread vhdl

hex.....hummm...its tricky with normal std_textio package.
rather i would use hread function present in synopsis textio library.
this package is available in your vhdl_src folder of modelsim.
i

vhdl binary file read

Thank you for the suggestion, I wasn't aware of the library yet. There are also interesting utility functions in std_developerskit folder, I think.

vhdl file read binary

can you provide more details?

vhdl read binary file

sure!!
i assume that you want to use this for a testbench or some simulation purpose only.
add the textio package from synopsis into your project directory from the path i told you before. compile it .
to understand how to use these hread, hwrite etc procedure in your code you can simply open the package file and understand its input and output parameters.
the hread procedure reads line (similar to readline()).
rest is similar to what you do when dealing with textio.
