Hi, I would like to build a simple musical tone generator to play a small tune (like happy birthday). I want to use 3 LEDs for a visual display, synchronise to the music ( something like the graphic equalizer display on HiFi). Any clue to this?

You want to do this with a mcu? If so, check Pic Doorbell project of proteus system.It might be very useful for you.
