The chip is a driver for alphanumeric lcd, and the controller just simply 8-bit data, R/W, and other. The connection is depended on how you will use the driver, u can use 8 bit data stream or just 4 bit.

I think we can directly connect the LCD module to microcontrollors. Ryan
