How to get data from L&T Trivector Meter ER300P through modbus

Hi all,
Can anyone guide me to get data from L&T Trivector Meter ER300P through modbus. i connected D+ and D- output from Energy meter through RS485 to USB converter to PC. I am using Qmodbus to communicate with energy meter. When i send request to read from Holding Register i get an " Protocol Error Slave threw exception -12 or function not implemented.". How to solve this
