How to generate microstepping

sir, i am start working on microstepping using 89c51. i am use mazidi book for basic of stepper motor. but when ever i try to implement microstepping i cant perform it. can you give me some idea?
 

Hi are you using any micro stepping drivers or just directly with 8051
