question about dc power

I am wondering if there is a way to generate 10V DC using 5V DC and -5V DC. This is for IC design not pcb. Thanks.

question about dc power

You can use charge pump circuits to boost from 5v to 10v

Re: question about dc power

How. I have not other power sources, just use 5V and -5V. Thanks.

Re: question about dc power

There is an application note from Philips (for NE555) that describes a simple dc-dc converters with it.
"NE555 and NE556 applications" AN170

Re: question about dc power

Why can't you just use -5V as your reference and take +5V as the 10V line then?

you can use a charge pump and a few capacitors to generate 10V DC from +5V.

but current consumptio for +10V may not be too much.

maxim corporation's many RS232 related product use this technology

successfully.

good luck.

charge pump circuit works like this way
fist phase VDC 5V connect to CAP+ and GND connect to CAP+
second phase VDC 5V connect to CAP- and VOUT connect to CAP+
then you get VOUT equals 10V
in fact, due to switch loss,VOUT is lower than 10V.

question about dc power

I think charge pump can do this work .but the cap must off chip.
