How to select inductor and capacitor for simple LC type EMI filter? spec power 1HP, freq=50Hz.

it depends on frequency content at input port of your load. e.g. switching frequency if you are using inverter or pfc and the required attenuation on main port(e.g. 20 dB).
Please note that the attenuation level is not infinite so the generated noise of the load could not be very high or the EMI filter would be very bulky.
the requirement determines LC type (pi), order (no. of cascade stages) and cut off/resonance frequency.
attention: improper designed filter could amplify unwanted frequency contents due to resonance frequency. AC spice simulation and LAB measurements is necessary.
Also due to coupling nature of inductors and serial parasitic of capacitor, type of the components and their placement in filter box is very important.
proper grounding and shielding is also very important to meet the required attenuation.
and finally the most important issue is electrical safety!

BEST REGARDS.

Any EMI filter is a low-pass type, with specified response above the allowed frequency. As the DC current (sometimes also voltage) at DC to... several kHz is important to pass without any loss, then you can add L and C to get the desired response.
The task is not easy, this is why there are not many reliable manufacturers marketing EMC filters that meet the standards.
