Socket to serial

Hi,
As a small module of a project, I've been assigned the task to convert / translate a socket over serial port. (using C in Windows environment)

The trouble is that I dont even know what is the objective of socket to serial.
What could be the input to the module? What is the output of the module?

Please suggest some good source of information.

Re: Socket to serial

this module might be needed for extending the serila port options of the PC

try using the ISA/EISA slot .... it is easy to program .... compared to PCI and its variants ... do inform of the exact specifications like ... how many serial ports wd u like to have? ... 232 or 422? ... wd u require any ESD protection ... etc etc ... then maybe i can home in on some useful resource

try browsing through the maxim ic seiral tranciever manual for some useful hints
