cd4017 cascade

hi everyone
i biult a single character 5x7 LED display with a single CD4017 counter and it worked perfectly, but when i expanded the display to an 8 character 5x7 display(having 40 columns) and cascaced 5 counters there was a problem.the counters didnot count to the end they always stoped at a certain point.i made use of the cascading schematic in the datasheet for CD4017.pls if there is any other way of cascading the counters pls inform me or if there is another way of producing the sequence with another IC i would really love to know. i made use PIC16F84A as the microcontroller. i uploaded a schematic of the cascade i did

My friend you can refer to this picbasic site. It contain complete information on how to create the moving message using PIC16f628 and using the hc4017 decade counter. But you need to reagister before can view the post in the forums.

Thanks.
