Hai,

12VDC is applied to a tank circuit (L = 100 mH, c= 0.33 micro farad ,connected parallel). What is the maximum current circuit draws from the battery? First time m dealing with the tank circuit pls support me.

If you connect all "ideal" components like you said, then the current at the INSTANT you connect the battery will be infinite - since the capacitor will appear as a dead short.

However for real components there will always be some resistance in the path. In that case there will be a short period while the cap charges to the (almost) full 12vdc, and then fall to a low value. Meanwhile the current will start building through the inductor linearly. This current will continue to rise as time goes on as per equation I = V. t/ L

This current through the inductor will be limited only by any series resistance (battery + inductance resistance), or until something "breaks".

Since you have a battery connected to the tank, there will be no oscillations.... until you disconnect the battery. Only after you disconnect battery will the tank current start oscillating at its natural resonance frequency, and with an initial current which was the inductance current at that time.

hope this helps ?

if not, you can experiment with the following --- (Java required)
