how to become a mixed-signal IC designer?

which course usually at school to teach system and signal? DSP?How about control system? about digital design, you mean customer design. is that right?

Indeed, it is not so easy to have the chance to touch the desired projects and learn from them!
 

try to find a mixed signal designer that looks similar to yourself. kidnap them and begin going to their job in their place - keep them in a closet, so if you recieve a design project you cannot complete, it is convenient to ask them.
 

I should say with out the basics of the Signal Processing the Analog Design itself seems difficult. After spending one year on DSP in academics I turned to Analog Deisgn and it seems that any good simulator should use DSP techniques for accurate results. Simple DFTs may not work often due to their lack of accuracy with the sample sizes. I dont know much abt the Mixed Design but you will never have a feel of a good designer without good knowledge in DSP.
 

To do some real case is the most important thing. Such as ADC/DAC, PLL, etc.
