Short answer = yes, all buck converters become discontinuous at light loads, and for lower values of main L
there are many formulae for this online - an easy search
DCM ( discontinuous conduction mode ) has better dynamics than CCM ( continuous CM ) - but higher peak current for the same ave output current. So it is harder on the input caps & output caps
generally higher core losses too - due to the larger flux swings - in the main L, and wire losses due to the AC current.
