How practical is zigbee dongle for PC?

Hi

I am developing a Zigbee network and for its coordinator I am planning to use a PC equipped with a zigbee dongle. How practical is this? Is it difficult to use a zigbee dongle or is it just a simple plug and play program where one can easily use it?
