hi

i have a hard disk which come with apple system pre installed but i want to installed window on it, is there any method to format this hard with dos i tried lot method but no luck at all

Ehhmm..

1. What it has to do with "PC programming/interfacing" ???

2. Tried with "fdisk" first to delete Apple partitions and created new ones or left it to the Windows installer?

moved here from "PC programming/interfacing"

make a low level format. you will loose all data on the disk. the manufacturer provides usually a program, which will do the formatting. you just have to boot dos from a floppy.

hi

sorry for asking again i have tried all thing fdisk low level format but no luck how i can used a hard in windows which already apple installed on it as apple has differ format then windows.
the hard will detect in bios but no utillity can see it in normal so how i can reformat it or delete the partitions it is a 30GB hard

with the fdisk of a Linux instaler you can erase the apple partition, the fdisk of a linux, show every partition you have, then you can erase the old partition and create another new partition but dos compatible. there may be another windows partition manager as powerfull as linux fdisk, just try to find onther one!!!. There are a lot of shareware even freeware!!!. try in download.com

Hi Fragrance,
once upon a time, I worked in a TV station. They had all their old editing lists for cutting on floppies and wanted to throw them away. The floppies were formatted on Mac systems. I couldn't format under DOS, so i put them all under a degausser to delete. After doing this i was able to format the floppies under DOS. I have no idea how a harddrive behaves (metal case!) after such an operation.
ep20k.

Is this an external drive? If I remember right, the Apple operating system has the ability to format external drives in both DOS and Apple style. There are some third party Apple programs that will format drives.

Do you have a friend who has a macintosh with system 9 or later?

yes i ahve friend apple 9 os installed it is a internal hard drive

and here for the actual answer that you are waiting for:

ok when you are installing the apple, just before it asks you what language you would like it to be in etc, in the top left hand corner you will have a menu, click on it and you will have option for hdutils, (or hard disk utilities or something to that effect) it then gives you an option to formet etc, etc

that should help, hope i'm not too late,
regards
