How does a COM port work ?

Working with COM port!

How COM port works? If I want to upload a file to an external memory or a PIC microcontroller through a com port what circuit I'm going to need? I want full details on this subject. If anyone knows an E-book, please tell me where can I download it!!!

You can find here a good explanation about PC serial port. If You want to access the com port on windows, use the MSCOMM component (look for help on microsoft.com).

Also look at jdm interface, there simple rs232 level converter, you can use it for pic(ICSP) or serial EEPROM's. Software - http://www.ic-prog.com or you own.
