How do you gaurantee buying three metres of cable (ie one cable of length 3 metres)?

Hi,
I just ordered 3 metres of 4 core cable
Farnell 1923986

...however, it turned up as two pieces, one of 2 metres, and one of one metre.

They immediately very nicely agreed to refund, but how do you assure buying 3 continuous metres?

Unusual for Farnell to do that.
It is sold in multiples of 1m or a 50m drum so technically they were correct but the only way to be sure is to confirm with them first.
