hffs how to excite the microstrip line

Hey all;
I am working on a patch antenna design and I want to use a microstrip line to excite the patch, but I don't know who to model this in HFSS V11 . .
anybody could help? I'll be thankfull

Hey there,

So here is how I would define a microstrip port.

First draw a rectangle from your microstrip line to your ground plane (as shown in picture.

Then click on that rectangle and say "define excitation" -> "lumped port" (as shown in attached picture)

Then define the correct main e-field line (shown in picture as well but draw from center of microstrip directly down to ground)

I have attached an example HFFS file that has a microstrip line and two lumped element ports.

Hope this helps,
B

Thanx b4bb4ge :)
It seems that u r expert in HFSS (at least compared to me!), would u tell me how the 'Eignmode' solution type exactly works?

If it is possible, can I be an HFSS expert within a week?!

HI
how could i excite two wire (cylindre) lines (signal and groud) and three wire lines (differential mode; two signals+ ground) in HFSS? I wan to plot the characteeristic impedance and the S-parameter.
I'll be thankfull...
