How can I design AC-LED lamp without using transformer?

Now, I am trying ac led lamp. I would like to design that circuit without transformer. Power source is ac 220 V and 50 Hz. Now, I have use resister and capacitor division ckt. Is it ok? Please share your knowledge, everybody.
 

Yeah, I use capacitor and resistor in series, but the output is not stable and voltage is high, I would like to get only 6V.
 

The above circuit is designed only for Single LED, Accordingly values of Cand R are caluculated for may be LED forward voltage of 2V and current of 20mA.
You can calculate values of C and R for sevral series and parallel combition of High Flux power LEDs. Again note that C is unpolarized Cap. and R is 1W. Also as LED is ON only for half cycle of AC, it will give flickered light. You can put a full wave rectifire instead of capacitor and adjust the R value accordingly.
Be careful while handling the circuit as it is AC you are playing with..
 

Using a cap is more efficient than just a resistor, less power loss and heat. Needs to be a very good quality cap though.
