How can I activate my Cadence Hotkeys ?Ubuntu 12.04

Am new with linux thing and have no idea about commands, But the hotkeys are not working at all , does anyone know how to activate them ???

What Cadence tool you are using? Virtuoso? Encounter? What do you mean by not working?

Virtouso. The short keys are not working , whenever i press "i" "w" "p" or any of those nothing happens !
do you know how to fix this ?

Otherwise, there is probably issue with the Virtuoso installation or maybe new version of Ubuntu.
