what is asic specification

How in Real World Project they determined the ASIC Specification Such as Timing, Area,Power,....., on what they base, i hard that Market research is the way to Determined Market ASIC Specification.

Re: ASIC Specification

it depends on the complexity of ASIC, and gate count,

Thanks & Regards

Re: ASIC Specification

Hi
Specification may be related to Standard specification.
Or it may be related to system architect engineer who study the system requirement reported by the marketing then try to fulfill it.

Thanks
Haytham

Re: ASIC Specification

Yes.... all those parameter (Timing, power, area, cost... etc) are all market driven.

Take for example an MP3 player:
- What is the final size expectation ?
- What are the various components in it (Circuitry, battery, LCD, etc....)
- How much space is allocated for circuitry, ?
- If the microcontroller has to perform and other functions other than the MP3 decoding itself, how much of the bandwidth is required so that there wont be any voice breaks inbetween.
- If a particular type of battery is chosen, what is its rating, so what is the battery life expectations, so how much power is the max rating for the chip ?

Like this if you go an analyzing the minute details of the application, you will end up with the specifications for your design/chip.
