Hello friends I am having hynix make HMS81c2020A microcontroller which is having high voltage port to drive vaccum flourocent display directly. I didnt found any application note or circuit on web other than datasheet, Please post any circuit based on this controller. what programmer i can use to program it?
thanks in advance
1.3 Development Tools
The HMS81C20xxA are supported by a full-featured macro
assembler, an in-circuit emulator CHOICE-Dr.TM and
OTP programmers. There are third different type programmers
such as emulator add-on board type, single type, gang
type. For mode detail, Refer to “21. OTP PROGRAMMING”
on page 86. Macro assembler operates under the
MS-Windows 95/98TM.
Thank you for sparing your time, I already collected those Pdfs from web, my requirement is the hardware required/minimum components to program that controller. I am little aware of programers, what is the interface (SPI...?) and programer suitable for that controller to program.
The HMS81c2020A is either a Mask ROM or One Time Programmable (OTP) device. Therefore if you would like to alter the programming of this device you must purchase a new unprogrammed unit and use an Universal Programmer or a programmer from the chip manufacture which supports that family of devices. Several of the Data I/O programmers support this device.
I was removed this controller from a working DVD player scince i love flourecent display came with it. Is it not possible to reprogram and just through it away, Please advise.
thank you
No, unfortunately not. These particular devices are not designed for development. OTP means just that, you've got one shot and if you screw it up or need to revise the code you'll need to purchase a new unit. The is actually an In Circuit Emulator (ICE) available when developing for for this device and most other Mask ROM or OTP devices. I would suggest finding a more develop friendly device with flash or at least a windowed EPROM which supports fluorescent displays.
Another option would be to use a more conventional MCU in conjunction with a VFD Driver Device, for example MAXIM offers several SPI and I2C VFD drivers:
