Maybe not more than a brand new TFT monitor but more than I would see reasonable to spend for getting an old STN display to work. Of course you might be lucky and find some good deals on controllers but the normal prices are not very cheap.
It's also possible to make some kind controller yourself but unless you want it to be a learning experience and are willing to spend considerable time for it I don't think it's worth it.
