Hi guys,

I would need some help on getting high side mosfet gate drivers for high frequency applications

The high side voltages would be around 230V so something higher than that would be good.

I do know of IR2110 but that chip gives rather slow speeds.

anyone have any ideas or recommendation?
 

at least 1MHz, i was hoping for about 5A for fast charging of the switch's input gate capacitance.
 

I really don't think you are going to find a chip that can do that. Individually each parameter can be achieved fairly easily , all 3 combined
I think you may have a problem. 230V , 5A and 1Mhz......
A transformer gate drive may be the way to go here , but I think someone with a bit more experience whit this sort of thing may need to "chip"
in here :0)
 

the 5A requirement isn't hard and fast one. i'm just hoping that it will be high enough to charge the input gate capacitance of the switch quickly to be able to achieve at least 1MHz operation.

so main requirement would be at least 230V tolerant and 1MHz capable.. any ideas?

or is there any way that i do to modify the typical low side drivers to suit high side driving applications?
 

Level shifting high side drivers like IR2110 can achieve 1 MHz, but they would need current boosters. Basically, the delay skew of this driver type isn't well suited for high frequency.

Optical or magnetical isolation in combination with high speed drivers seems to be the better way. Bootstrap supply can be used, if your application allows it (in terms of duty cycle, required start-up behaviour).

The question suggests that you are planning a MHz switcher application without much experience in this field. I wonder if you are prepared for the general problems involved with MHz power electronics?
