Help required about Beakdown voltage limits of capacitor.

I have a requirement of negative voltage limit for capacitor e.g -16V. What does it meant by -16V limit. I cant be able to find such capacitor. I want comments w.r.t. both Electrolyte and ceramic capacitor.

Most electrolytic capacitors must use only one polarity of voltage. Reversed voltage might cause them to blow up like a bomb. The correct polarity is marked on them.
A film or ceramic capacitor can use either polarity of voltage.

I actually wanted to know if capacitors comes with the -ive breakdown voltage limits? The limits I have seen are like 16v, 25v etc
But my requirement is now the limit of -16V voltage limit. Any idea about that?
 

The correct technical term for unipolar capacitors (aluminium and tantal electrolytic) is maximum reverse voltage. If it's specified at all, the value will be very low, e.g. 0.5 V.

Actually, I have to put many capacitors in a desired circuit. I have their values and voltage limit in a requirements document. All values of voltages are good enough to understand. But there are two odd values with -16V limit. 1 for the Electrolytic capacitor and 1 for the ceramic. For Electrolytic may be I have to use it opposite polarities but for Ceramic . . . :thinker:
I don't think its a case of reverse voltage. It's either a fault in document or the -ive voltage limit which I cant find. I just dont wanna feel myself stupid by raising such issue personally to my supervisor :???:
 

What is the values of the capacitors in question? That will give an indicationon what the answer is.
 

What is the symbol for the electrolytic capacitor in the schematics?
Can you post (a part of) the schematics where the capacitor is placed?

What is the power supply voltage(s) for this design?

Are these two capacitors the only capacitors in use in the design?
How is the voltage defined for the other capacitors, if any?
 

I have been told to build a shunt capacitor PCB. I have to give all capacitor connections on a connector.

Basically, I dont have to design circuit. I have to place capacitor connections on PCB so that it can be used in some project.

For placing capacitors, I have to select the components and I am confused about the rating of the capacitor.

The question is "By seeing such requirements, which capacitor I have to choose?"

I cant be able to find a capacitor on any online shop.
